These new programs provide enhancements to the ISA100 Wireless platform designed to improve interoperability and the user experience.

The ISA100 Wireless OPC-UA/PA-DIM extension provides one data model for all ISA100 Wireless systems, thereby simplifying system integration.

The ISA100 Wireless application framework defines an OPC-UA interface within the gateway. Historically, all vendors gateways have supported approximately the same functionality within their OPC-UA interfaces. However, the data models used were all a little different, until now. WCI has adopted PA-DIM, with some extensions, in order to standardize the OPC-UA interface with a single data model.

PA-DIM, which stands for Process Automation Device Information Model, is a specification that defines protocol-agnostic communication of common process automation instrument parameters using OPC-UA information modeling techniques. The ISA100 Wireless Institute a co-owner of the PA-DIM specification, along with FieldComm Group, OPC Foundation, NAMUR, FDT Group, PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International), ODVA. VDMA, and ZVEI. A shared data model across all of these organizations eases end-user integration.

To support interoperability and continuous improvement, the ISA100 Wireless Institute hosts annual Interoperability Workshops to validate end-to-end operation of field devices through the PA-DIM interface.

The ISA100 Wireless extensions to PA-DIM address wireless aspects that are not in PA-DIM’s scope, such as mesh network topology, signal quality, etc.
