ISA100 Wireless Compliance Institute Exhibits at Hannover Messe 2014

The ISA100 Wireless Compliance Institute (WCI) hosted an ISA100 Wireless technology kiosk in the Field Communication Lounge along with FDT, Hart, Fieldbus Foundation, and Profibus at Hannover Messe 2014.  Interest in technologies supporting IOT (Internet of Things) was high, particularly technologies like ISA100 Wireless that extends IOT to wireless.

Yokogawa and GE hosted co-located kiosks demonstrating their ISA100 Wireless applications for temperature and pressure sensing and condition monitoring.  Yokogawa’s configuration included duo-cast technology for high reliability, only available using ISA100 Wireless.  GE’s vibration monitoring application demonstrated how GE’s proprietary protocol is easily transmitted across the universal ISA100 Wireless network using tunneling and object technology.

Themes resonating with visitors to the ISA100 Wireless kiosk were:
  1. No Regretted Investment with ISA100 Wireless (multiple applications under one infrastructure, superior tunneling, Use of Object Technology)
  1. Internet of Things Ready (Native IPv6) -  suppliers and end users are beginning to realize that ISA100 Wireless natively uses IPv6, which provides the foundations for easy machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and management.  Wireless IPv6 networking is easily understood and readily adoptable on a broad scale.
  1. Rounding out the basic requirements for IOT readiness is the ISA100 Wireless support for object technology.  Smart objects provide the foundation for machines to independently interact with other machines without intervention from host systems (see http://www.ipso-alliance.org).
